Bursary Information
Prince Rupert Special Events Society Bursary Prince Rupert Special Events Society (PRSES) is pleased to offer one $1000 or two $500 bursaries to deserving high school graduates of School District 52 who have shown their commitment to fostering community spirit through their volunteer work with PRSES and the surrounding communities.
PRSES has been committed to fostering community spirit in Prince Rupert since 1992 through its delivery of the annual community festivals which are the Children’s Festival, Seafest, Canada Day and Winterfest. The dedicated work of volunteers has allowed these annual community festivals to be organized, coordinated and produced. The bursary funds are a result of the Jim Ciccone Memorial 3on3 Basketball Challenge and the Grass Volleyball Tournament which are held annually during the Seafest community festival.
Criteria: 1. The candidate must be a graduating student from a secondary school in SD52 in the current year. 2. The candidate must have volunteered in their grades 9-12 at a minimum of two (2) community festivals organized by the Prince Rupert Special Events, at Children’s Festival, Seafest, Canada Day or Winterfest. 3. The amount of volunteering time that a student completes will determine which student or students will be selected to receive this bursary. Definitely volunteering at the community festivals is very important. 4. The candidate must write a paragraph and include it with their application, detailing their volunteer experiences and how these experiences have influenced their understanding of community spirit. 5. The Prince Rupert Special Events Society will affirm the candidates’ volunteer commitments. The students’ eligibility will then be reviewed with the SD52 Bursary Committee prior to the candidate selection. 6. The selected student must request to PRSES to receive their bursary within sixteen months of graduation, by November 1st of the year following their Grade 12 graduation. Example: Graduate of June 2021, the latest you can request your bursary is November 01, 2022. 7. The selected student must submit proof of enrollment at a recognized accredited post-secondary institution. This proof must be submitted to PRSES after the post-secondary institutions’ add/drop deadline for tuition refund, and must clearly show that the student continues to be enrolled in courses at the institution following this deadline. 8. Eligible students may apply for this award by completing and submitting the general application form provided in the SD52 Graduation Awards Booklet.
